Saint Ivan island
The island of Saint Ivan
The Saint Ivan island is four km southerly of Rovinj it's 88.737 m2 wide and 1,72 km long. The shape of the island is very interesting as an irregular number eight, in the middle is a low and tight section.
Among all the other 22 island and skerries of the archipelago of Rovinj it's the most beloved one by the citizens. All the lovers of relaxation, clean sea and rocky beaches. The island is reachable by personal transportation or arranged boat trips.
It's richly forested and abounds by a rich vegetation.
It has been inhabited since olden times which confirm the remains of a Benedictine church, and was deserted with the arrival of Napoleon-it is assumed in 1806. The Benedictine monks rarely leaved the island as they had their own water cistern. Today dilapidated remains of the church tower can still be seen. Their church tower was build by the model of the church tower and the Benedictine church of Rovinj.
